Meltdown: We Are Experiencing Technical Difficulties
A downloadable game for Windows and Linux
Made by three fellas with not enough free time to make a game for the BarckeysGameJam 2025
Theme: Nothing can go wrong...
Our Game Idea: Inspired by Homer Simpson at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant. The player must avert a reactor meltdown but, like Homer Simpson, they have absolutely no idea what to do. Their only guide is an antique manual... but alas it is written in riddles and puzzles.
Going for silly & goofy, with some of the manual/puzzle ideas so far ranging from crossword solutions to tongue-in-cheek ciphers.
Some of these we plan to be deliberate red-herrings which will lead the player towards multiple endings, such as:
- Full Success (Actually stop it melting down)
- Full Failure (Reaction Meltdown/Explosion)
- Immediate destruction bc you pressed the self-destuct button
- Escape by ejection seat
P.S. Alas the game doesnt play start-to-finish
Development will continue after the submission date
Theres a simon says that works fully so thats dope. We are aware of 90% of the problems, but you can walk around so that's cool.
WASD to walk
E or F or LMB to interact
TAB to open manual
Q/E to flick through manual pages
